"I love the tools. The shaft design is nice and
simple, which makes them great for alpine use. The Ti shaft can take a beating too and I had
smug sympathy for a mate who broke his carbon Black Prophets earlier this year."-
Andy Mahoney- Fairbanks, Alaska in an unsolicited email
I had to try the leashless tools for a while, but
after one season, I sold them and went back to the Mantas. They are still the best tools out
there. Chad Stebbins- Evergreen Colorado
WE SET OUT TO BUILD THE WORLD'S BEST ICE TOOL.
WE BELIEVE WE SUCCEEDED.
TITANIUM SHAFT
Why titanium? Titanium is strong to resist damage. Its also light. This puts the
weight where you want itat the head. Titanium is also stiffer than aluminumas
a result, your swing energy goes into driving the pick, not vibrating the handle.
THREE SHAPES TO CHOOSE FROM
Mantas come in three shapes.
CLEARANCE SHAFT reaches around bulges as well as other modern clearance designs.
The MANTA, however, is superior in that the straight upper portion allows easy
hammering and chopping. Just hold the shaft above the curve and it's just like using
a straight shaft tool. Other clearance designs have "ANTI-CLEARANCE" when
using the hammer/adze side of the head. This is NOT a problem with the MANTA.

a straight shaft.

TRADITIONAL CURVE an "S" shaped curve for reduced fatigue while hanging
and less knuckle bashing.

CNC HEAD CUT FROM BILLET 7075 T6 ALUMINUM

The Modular Manta features a billet aluminum head. 7075 alloy was used to provide the absolute strongest
head possible. CNC machining ensures the tightest tolerances.
ONE PIECE HEAD
In addition to the modular Manta with aluminum heads, Stanley
Alpine offers a one
piece head design. Laser cut from chrome-moly steel, the one piece head is simple and
tough. Though the one piece Manta costs less than the modular Manta, you dont need
to compromise on quality or performance. You get the same titanium shafts, and the same
computer aided design. If you manage to wear out or damage the pick, Stanley
Alpine will install a new head for
just $45. Thats only a couple bucks more than the other guys picks. The one
piece Manta is available with plain hammer or Hooker adze.
HARDENED, TEMPERED, THEN COLD TREATED FIRE, and ICE click to enlarge
The chrome-moly parts are hardened and tempered to Rc 41-43. Then they are frozen to
-100 F. This makes the steel even tougher and ensures you will NOT have problems
with cold embrittlement, even in the coldest environments. We know of no other
manufacturer who takes this extra step.
HOOKER HAMMER
The hammer of the modular Manta has a bevel ground into it for hooking rock edges. It is
also tapered like a chock to fit into cracks for a SECURE rock placement. Also
available in oversize for those of us who are too uncoordinated to hit anything with a
standard size hammer!
HOOKER ADZE
The end of the adze is beveled for hooking rock edges. The tapered shape lets it reach
into tight spaces.
COMPUTER AIDED DESIGN
CAD design techniques were used to optimize the relationship of the pick to the
instantaneous center of rotation. The pick enters the ice at the perfect angle.
MULTIPLE GRIP SIZES AVAILABLE
The right grip size means you save strength, youre more comfortable, and your hands
stay warmer. We can even make custom grip sizes. Give us a call.
CUSTOM SHAFT LENGTHS AVAILABLE
We will build you a tool with any length shaft you want. Give us a call.
PIKA ZIP LEASHES
The original Zip Leash. This is the leash everyone else is copying. We didn't copy it. We bought it.
It uses a simple turning action of the wrist to cinch it tight. When closed,
it remains closed. It opens by hooking the stiffened side loop over the hammer or
adze... and ZIP... it's off! Padded neoprene patch for comfy hang and a plastic
buckle to limit how far it will slide down.
